KEWASKUM- Bob Manthei put his time card in the time clock for the last time on Thursday, June 28. After serving the village for 36 years Manthei will hand the reigns over his right-hand man, Jim Noren.

Manthei started with the village’s Department of Public Works in 1971 as a crew member. The following year, he began working with Pete Albers in the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

When Albers retired in 1994, he became the plant’s lead operator. Noren then joined him in 1994.

Noren took over as lead operator on Monday, July 2. Department of Public Works Director (DPW) Jerry Gilles stated that Noren’s position was posted within the DPW, and he received three applications.

Gilles recommended DPW crewmember Craig Gruber for the job. The Village Board approved the move at a meeting on Monday, June 25. Gilles stated that the switch would not occur until July 16 when Gilles expects to fill Gruber’s position.
