Kewaskum School District promotes from within for KES principal position
KEWASKUM- The Board of Education accepted the resignation of Kewaskum Elementary School (KES) principal Dr. Kieth Kriewaldt at their June meeting held Monday, June 11. Later in closed session they promoted two Kewaskum High School (KHS) staff members.

Associate principal Tom Fischer will replace Kriewaldt at KES officially July 9. Social Studies instructor Anne Ignatowski will take over for Fischer at KHS. Both are thrilled with their new positions.

“I’m looking forward to working with that age group and the staff at there, this wasn’t planned, but I’m excited,” Fischer stated while he was starting to pack up his things at KHS. Fischer has been with the district since July of 2005.

Fischer and his family reside in Kewaskum and he will now be dad and principal to one of his children. He stated that he would be continuing much of the work started by Kriewaldt and is hoping for a seamless transition for him and his new staff.

Currently Fischer leads the district’s mentoring program for new teachers. He stated he would continue in that capacity. He believes the mentoring program is very beneficial for new teachers.

District officials could not confirm or deny that Fischer will continue Kriewaldt’s position of Director of Elementary Education. Fischer stated that he was not offered the title.

Fischer will receive an annual salary of $75,920 and is contracted to work 260 days. Dr. Kriewaldt’s salary was $86,861 for the 2006-2007 school year.

Ignatowski says she is thrilled to be given a leadership position with district. She started here 10 years ago and had recently received her degree in educational leadership from Marian College.

She says that district officials knew she was looking to get in a leadership position either in Kewaskum or another district so she was approached once Fischer was promoted.

“I like this community, the students are great. This is a great place to work,” she stated while finishing up end of the year tasks in her classroom. “We have lots of changes coming at the high school, because I have been here, I have a good feel for the direction in which we’re heading, we are going to continue to make this a better school. That is the direction we’re headed,” she concluded.

She will officially move into the position on July 1. Ignatowski and her husband reside in Wauwatosa, but are looking to move closer to the district soon.

Ignatowski will work 220 days and receive a $60,000 salary. Fischer received $65,700 during the 2006-2007 school year.

“Both Tom and Anne are highly qualified, and we feel fortunate that they are staying at Kewaskum Community Schools while advancing their careers,” announced Superintendent of Schools Mike Krumm.
