TOWN OF AUBURN- Those traveling into the village of Campbellsport on Saturday, September 22, found themselves taking a detour off of the main thoroughfare into the small community. A police standoff ended after Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department SWAT team members entered the home.
The initial response came around 8:26 a.m. when the Sheriff's Department dispatched a Campbellsport ambulance as a result of a domestic situation. The situation occurred just south of the village of Campbellsport limits on the east side of County Highway V.
Lieutenant Rick Olig of the Fond du Lac County Sheriff's Department explained, "Due to circumstances deputies set up a perimeter around the residence and attempts were made to contact the male subject in the residence. After five hours of attempting to make contact, gas was introduced into the residence. 20 minutes later the SWAT team made entry into the residence and located the 37-year-old male subject, already deceased inside the residence."
The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Department was assisted at the scene by the Wisconsin State Patrol, Campbellsport Fire and EMS and the Campbellsport Police Department.
The Statesman will continue to update this story if needed in our September 27 printed edition.
