By ANDREW KUEHL

6/25/08 KEWASKUM- Another owner closed the doors on a historic eatery in the village on Monday, June 23. After almost eight years, Woody’s Steakhouse is the latest restaurant to close at what has been a village mainstay for hospitality.

Woody’s Steakhouse opened after the closing of The Salt H2O Cafe. A supper club that was famous for seafood with a Floridian flare. Prior to that establishment, the building was home to The Gateway Supper Club.

Todd “Woody” Kleinhans opened the restaurant In July of 2000. Prior to opening Woody’s Steakhouse, he co-owned and operated Rookie’s Sports Bar and Grill (now John’s on Main) in Kewaskum and Woody’s on the Pond and Woody’s Xtra Innings both in Campbellsport. Both Campbellsport establishments have closed in the last five years.

The Steakhouse was a popular destination place for steaks, seafood and luncheons. Woody’s also catered at the Steakhouse and off premise. At one time handling catering for Camelot Country Club, Rock River Country Club and Washington County Fair Park. Woody also catered various civic functions in the area.

Local real estate investor Gary Gavin bought the historic building in 1997, after it operated for decades as The Glacier Inn. Gavin completed gutted the structure, adding a large bar, outdoor porch overlooking downtown, and banquet hall for 100 in the upper level of the building.

Gavin, who still owns the building stated Tuesday, he is seeking another tenant for the restaurant. Interested parties can contact him at (262) 707-4680.

Kleinhans stated Tuesday, “Closing was a tough decision, I needed to do this for financial reasons. I want to thank all my customers for their patronage, especially my fellow business owners for their support. Lastly, I want to thank Gary Gavin, he has been very helpful with everything.”
