Fire destroys barn in Campbellsport
subhead

04/21/2008 TOWN of AUBURN- On Monday, April 21, at 2:44 p.m. the Campbellsport Fire Department was called to a barn fire at N1367 Maple Drive. Campbellsport Fire Department Chief Jeff Lindsley indicated the first responding units reported that upon arrival the barn was completely engulfed in flames and that the roof had already collapsed.

The department positioned Ladder 406 in driveway and LDH (large diameter hose) was layed to end of driveway where engine 402 was set up with portable tanks to deliver water from tankers.

The barn was considered a complete loss. Water was used to protect a nearby shed and a farm house. A large tracked excavator was brought in to pull apart hay as firefighters wet it down.

"Because of the actions of the hired hand and neighbors, no animals were lost," Lindsley stated.

The fire started near a tractor that was being used to blow chopped corn stalks into the barn. Attempts to put out the fire by farm employees were unsuccessful.

The barn, a small out building and several pieces of machinery were a complete loss and damage was done to two silos, a shed and the farm house. As of this time no dollar amount of damages has been determined.

The Campbellsport Fire Department was assisted by Kewaskum Fire Department with a full response and tankers from Eden, Lomira and Cascade.

Randolph man killed in crane versus car crash

04/21/2008 TOWN of AUBURN- The Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office responded to a fatal crash at 3:30 p.m. along with the Wisconsin State Patrol, Eden, Campbellsport, Cascade and Kewaskum Fire Departments, and City of Fond du Lac Ambulance to a report of a motor vehicle crash with injuries at Highways 67 and 45. Flight for Life Helicopter later was dispatched to the scene.

The investigation showed an eastbound car on Highway 67 failed to yield right of way from a stop sign to a northbound crane on Highway 45. The operator of the crane attempted to swerve to avoid striking
the car, but the crane rolled over on top of the car trapping both occupants. One of the occupants in that vehicle died as a result of his injuries, and the female occupant was extricated and then
flown by Flight for Life Helicopter to Froedtert Memorial Hospital in Milwaukee.
